Investing in Ohio's Future
As the mother of two girls, Stephanie knows the value of a quality education, from kindergarten to career. That's why she pushed for historic investments in our school districts. In addition to putting more resources in the classroom, Stephanie was the lead sponsor of a bill that sent an additional $100 million to districts statewide for the construction and renovation of better facilities.
Stephanie believes all children deserve an equal opportunity to a quality education and voted to give our public schools more funding than at any time in Ohio's history. And she's been a tireless advocate for keeping more of those dollars right here in our communities.
Stephanie has also been a leader in the Senate on early childhood education, as well as improving access to quality child care and pre-kindergarten programs. And no one has done more to keep our students safe. Stephanie sponsored a bill giving schools additional support for security and greater ability to prevent acts of violence, while identifying and helping troubled students.
Protecting & Empowering Women
As one of only eight women in the Ohio Senate and one of only four women in the chamber's majority party, Stephanie provides an important voice for women in the policy-making process.
She sponsored new laws to support victims of sexual abuse, human trafficking, and domestic violence. Her efforts have helped women escape a life of exploitation and restore hope and dignity.
Stephanie authored a bill to create a special commission that highlights the historic effort to give women the right to vote and advances the empowerment of women in the political process.
Growing Ohio's Economy
Over the last four years, Stephanie has worked to position Central Ohio as a leader in job growth, workplace equality, workforce retraining, and economic development.
Despite the temporary challenges of a global public health crisis, Stephanie has already joined a bipartisan effort to support impacted families and small businesses. She also authored a bill to help Ohio attract and retain major economic development projects, while supporting tax relief for struggling small businesses.
Stephanie also secured critical new funding for infrastructure projects, allowing Central Ohio communities to invest in roads, bridges, and even interstate highway improvements essential to jobs and commerce.
Keeping Families Healthy & Safe
As a parent, Stephanie wants every family to have access to affordable, quality health care. That's why she supported expanding Medicaid care for thousands of Ohioans, and she's working to hold the prescription drug industry more accountable for price gouging and market manipulation.
Stephanie has a passion for reducing the alarming rate of infant mortality in Ohio, leading both the Ohio Commission on Infant Mortality and the Ohio Family Stability Commission. She also successfully championed legislation aimed at fighting Ohio's opiate epidemic.
Now, she's leading the effort to crack down on distracted driving, which has caused nearly 14,000 Ohio accidents and taken 51 lives in a single year.
